Petition collecting undergrads' signatures to free Najib underway

A movement is said to be collecting undergraduates' signatures to support a petition to free former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

The matter was informed by several student leaders who refused to reveal their names.

A Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) student leader said he had received information about the movement but could not confirm its validity.

"I only heard from friends. But I'm not sure how far the truth is," he told Malaysiakini.

Another student leader at a public university in the Klang Valley echoed the same thing.

"There is indeed a movement to collect signatures, but it's not very 'aggressive' here," he said.

Previously, X user Injang questioned whether there was a movement involving undergraduates, collecting signatures to request Najib's release.

On Oct 14, a group calling themselves the 'Return Najib Movement' aimed to collect one million signatures on a petition to release Najib to be presented to the Istana Negara.

However, it cannot be ascertained whether the group has anything to do with the movement that is said to be collecting undergraduates' signatures.
