Muhyiddin: Bersatu to lodge police, MACC reports on 'defections'

Bersatu will lodge reports with the police and MACC, alleging acts of bribery and coercion in getting several of the party’s MPs to voice support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

According to party president Muhyiddin Yassin, Bersatu has collected evidence regarding the matter.

“We have collected all the information. For instance, in the case of Gua Musang MP (Mohd Azizi Abu Naim), he told the last Kelantan Bersatu meeting that he had received offers but he rejected them all.

“However, three days later, he voiced support for the Madani government, and we suspect several things that go against the law happened, and we have collected data on this,” he said.

Muhyiddin was speaking at a press conference after chairing a Bersatu supreme council emergency meeting last night.

The meeting was convened to discuss the spate of Perikatan Nasional MPs who pledged to support Anwar in the past month.

Aside from Azizi, the three other Bersatu MPs who have backed Anwar are Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

Iskandar and Suhaili have been suspended from Bersatu for four years and six years, respectively, by the party’s disciplinary board.

The support of the four Bersatu MPs brings the number of MPs aligned to Anwar in Parliament to 150, three more than required for a two-thirds majority.

Last night, all Bersatu assemblypersons renewed their pledge of allegiance to Muhyiddin.

Elaborating, Muhyiddin claimed that Iskandar Dzulkarnain was also previously coerced into supporting the prime minister.

“In the Kuala Kangsar MP’s case, we have dates of a tauke (business tycoon) with a ‘Tan Sri’ title meeting and threatening that if he (Iskandar) does not support Anwar, the MACC might take action against him.

“So there are elements of intimidation here, and in the other cases, they (the Bersatu MPs) were offered millions of ringgit (to back Anwar),” Muhyiddin alleged.

“We have collected all the evidence, and will lodge a report with the police and MACC.”
