RM520k for Selangor royal state park

The Selangor government will spend RM520,000 on the Hutan Warisan Diraja Selangor (Selangor royal state park) next year.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said during his Budget 2024 speech today that the money would be spent on making the park a "centre of excellence".

"The funds will cover the launch of the park and a mini biodiversity scientific expedition," he said.

Previously known as the Selangor state park, the park spans 103,000ha across Hulu Selangor, Gombak, and Hulu Langat.

Amirudin also said Selangor will spend RM400,000 on tree-planting exercises next year. The goal is to plant 11 million trees by 2026.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said Selangor will be embarking on an e-waste recycling programme next year which will involve the private sector, NGOs, petrol stations, selected supermarkets, and industries in the state.

"E-waste recycling bins will be prepared in these areas to make it easier for the public to dispose of their waste," he said.

He also affirmed that the Sultan Idris Shah Green Energy (Sisge) Plant - which includes a waste incinerator project in Rawang, Selangor - was going ahead.

"This project is up to the standards of developed countries in sustainable waste management.

"The project will cost RM4.5 billion. It will be completed in 10 years through four phases. It will be funded through private finance initiative (PFI)," he said.

Rawang residents have protested against the project.

However, Amirudin insisted that the project was very high-tech and that there would be close-to-zero emissions.
