It's for constituents' benefit - Gua Musang MP insists

Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, one of four Bersatu lawmakers who shifted support to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, has reiterated that his decision was made in the interest of his constituents.

News Straits Times reported that Azizi (above) had previously remained silent amid questions raised, leading up to calls from five top Bersatu leaders yesterday.

"Five top leaders from Bersatu had called me yesterday including the party's president but I am not ready to explain the details (of the calls).

"I received their calls after four years of joining the party," he told the English daily.

Azizi expressed willingness to face any consequences for his decision, the report said.

"I have made this decision for the benefit of the people in my constituency.

"I hope voters will understand and I leave it to them to judge me as my presence in Parliament is also the result of their trust," he was quoted as saying.

Still part of opposition bench

Azizi also stressed that while he had requested to change his seating place in the Dewan Rakyat, along with three other Bersatu MPs, he will remain to be a part of the opposition bench.

The other Bersatu MPs who backed Anwar are Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

Yesterday, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said the party will lodge reports with the police and MACC over alleged acts of bribery and coercion in getting the MPs to voice support for Anwar.

Iskandar and Suhaili have been suspended from Bersatu for four years and six years respectively, while the party will initiate legal action against Zahari and Azizi.
