M'sia wants no more rhetorics following OIC meet - Zambry

Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir has expressed hope that the joint statement to be made at the 8th Extraordinary Islamic Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Riyadh will be a concrete one that strays from rhetoric.

This is in relation to the drafting of a joint statement on the Palestine issue amid conflict in the Middle East.

“We are in the midst of final preparation of drafting the joint statement.

“Malaysia (delegation) has stressed on bringing its mandate, and for the matters we press upon to be included in this joint statement.

“... We hope that the statement that is issued makes a stance and no longer plays with rhetorics,” he said in a video posted to Facebook today.

Zambry, alongside Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil and Foreign secretary-general Amran Mohamed Zin, is part of the delegation.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrived in the Saudi capital today with his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Leaders and delegates from OIC member states will gather at the summit hosted by Saudi Prime Minister Crown Prince Mohammed Salman.

There were two preparatory meetings preceding the summit - the OIC senior officials’ meeting on Nov 9, and the OIC ministerial meeting on Nov 10 - according to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry yesterday.

The extraordinary gathering at the King Abdulaziz Convention Centre in Riyadh follows Anwar’s extensive engagement with several OIC leaders on the Palestinian issue and Israel’s unabated military aggression.
