MACC lodges police report over T'ganu Bersatu chief's speech

MACC today filed a police report over a speech by Terengganu Bersatu chief Razali Idris which went viral on social media platform TikTok.

In a statement today, the MACC said it lodged a report against the account which goes under the @wancin11 handle, which had posted a video of the speech.

"In the message, Razali (above) is seen making several false accusations in his speech during the launching ceremony of the Kemaman parliamentary by-election machinery on Nov 10.

"He has stated that the machinery of the government, MACC and judges are controlled by the current government, as well as disputing the High Court judge's decision regarding the conviction of former youth and sports minister (Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman)," said the anti-graft body.

The speech came a day after Syed Saddiq was sentenced to seven years in jail, two strokes of the rotan, and slapped with an RM10 million fine. This was after the Kuala Lumpur High Court found him guilty of four charges involving criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation of property, and money laundering linked to RM1.12 million of Bersatu Youth funds.

The MACC said that it takes slander and accusations seriously because they can affect the public's confidence in the enforcement and legal system of this country.

"The MACC is an enforcement body empowered by law to carry out the function and role of fighting corruption independently and professionally without being controlled by any party.

"Therefore, MACC hopes that appropriate action can be taken immediately against those who issue and spread such defamation and accusations," it said.

The Kemaman by-election was called after the Terengganu Election Court nullified the victory of Che Alias Hamid of PAS in the 15th general election last year, reasoning that there had been elements of corruption during the electoral campaign.

The Election Commission has set polling for the by-election on Dec 2, while the nomination is on Nov 18 and early voting on Nov 28.
