A PKR MP has warned MIC deputy president M Saravanan not to “threaten” Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim after the latter said his party will not hesitate to take further action if it does not receive recognition from the coalition government.

Batu MP P Prabakaran took a jibe at Saravanan, questioning what sort of recognition MIC needs and what action will it take if its demands are not heard by Anwar.

Pointing out that MIC is a BN component party, Prabakaran (above) said that as a matter of principle, the party should bring its demands to BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“An agreement should be reached between them (MIC and Zahid) before it is referred to the prime minister.

“From a moral point of view, it is impolite when the Pakatan Harapan chairperson (Anwar) interferes in the internal affairs of the component parties of the coalition government, and vice versa,” he said in a statement today.

He also denounced Saravanan’s demands as baseless as it violated the principles among the component parties of BN.

“I urge Saravanan to practise mature politics and return to the nature of BN to ensure that MIC remains relevant among its component parties.”

During his concluding speech at the MIC’s 77th annual general meeting (AGM) yesterday, Saravanan said the party was clear that it would not ask for positions in the government but it demanded due respect.

Should MIC not receive the recognition it deserves, the Tapah MP said the party leadership will announce its next course of action.

However, he did not divulge what he meant by “next course of action”.
