MIC aware of being 'reserve player' in govt, says Vigneswaran
MIC has reiterated its stance of not wanting to ask for any government positions in the coalition government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

MIC has reiterated its stance of not wanting to ask for any government positions in the coalition government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Its president SA Vigneswaran said this is because the party is more like a 'reserve player', as opposed to one on the main roster.
"We are a 'reserve player' in the substitute bench and not on the main roster.
"But, if given the chance, we are willing to play (be part of the coalition government at the federal and state level)," Vigneswaran (above) told reporters after launching MIC's 77th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang this morning.
He then reiterated that MIC will not ask for any government positions.
"If the prime minister feels we are suitable (for positions), then we are willing to be part of the government."
He was earlier asked to comment on grievances from certain quarters about MIC being 'sidelined' from the current coalition government.
Vigneswaran assured that MIC has other "more important" roles.
"We have other roles now. If we didn't, then we can focus on government positions.
"Certain quarters want government positions for the 'pride', but for MIC, it is more of a burden.
"So, it is better to not have a position. What matters is we support the prime minister," he said.
‘Face reality’
Vigneswaran stressed that MIC can no longer "run away” from the reality of having to prioritise the party's, as well as the Indian community's interests, rather than trying to please "old friends".
"MIC is very practical now, and after 2018, we have started to accept reality. We cannot run from it.
"This means important decisions must be made based on what is good for the party, and Indians, and not based on 'old friendships'.
"We will only work with those who can ensure our victory," he said when asked about plans for the next general election.
During his policy speech earlier, Vigneswaran urged MIC members to criticise the weaknesses in the coalition government.
"Just because we are part of today's coalition government does not mean we have to put up with its weaknesses.
"The grassroots are not obligated to stay silent if the leadership does not voice out against the government's weaknesses," he said.
This year's AGM is attended by about 1,500 delegates.

So tell me please, as an Indian, i like to know what plans does MIC have to uplift the Image of the Indians in Malaysia. I dont mean uplift economically but just the IMAGE, Now that you guys are not in the government yoiu guys have plenty of time for that. OR ARE YOU GUYS JUST TWINDLING YOUR THUMBS and keep your party positions. WE HAVE YET TO HEAR OF ANY COMMUNITY PROGRAMMES UNDERTAKEN BY MIC.
