Vote while weather is still fine, Kemaman aspirants say

KEMAMAN POLLS | Voters have been urged to take advantage of the fair weather to carry out their responsibility at the ballot box today.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said he hoped for a high voter turnout and urged voters to cast their votes early.

"God willing, the weather this morning is fine, although previous forecasts said it would rain. We hope this fine weather will last until evening.

"And I hope all (voters) will go out to vote early as it could rain later in the day," the Terengganu menteri besar told reporters at a polling centre in SK Kerteh, today.

According to the Election Commission (EC), the voter turnout as of 11am is at 27 percent.

Meanwhile, BN candidate Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor echoed A similar remark, saying the voter turnout thus far is still unsatisfactory.

"I visited a polling centre just now. The polling process is smooth thus far, thanks to the EC.

"However, the voter turnout is still low, probably because it’S still early. I would like to urge voters to cast their ballots early," he told the media after visiting the polling centre at SK Kampung Baru Kerteh.

A total of 141,382 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots today to elect a new representative for the Kemaman parliamentary constituency.

A total of 49 polling stations with 244 streams will open from 8am to 6pm, before the vote tallying process takes place at Dewan Berlian of the Kemaman Municipal Council in Chukai.

EC chairperson Abdul Ghani Salleh expects a turnout of up to 70 percent for the by-election, but it would depend on the weather condition, as it was projected to rain all day long.
