Sacked Isham 'crossed the line' in criticising Umno - veep

Umno supreme council member Isham Jalil was sacked from the party because he went overboard in criticising its leadership, according to party vice-president Khaled Nordin.

He reportedly said, Isham (above), with his rogue actions and position as a member of the leadership council, could threaten the party’s stability.

“Any political party, especially large parties like Umno, has to make sure there is no rogue member who can simply shoot their mouth or jeopardise the party’s stability.

“So when he crossed the line, other supreme council members believed he could have expressed his views through many other means.

“So the party has to take action to address such behaviour, because if everyone starts acting like him, then we will have a real problem. This is about handling our internal party discipline. We must know how to be a member of an organisation,” Khaled said, as quoted by Sinar Harian.

Khaled, who is the higher education minister, was commenting on the sacking of Isham during a press conference in Kota Tinggi, Johor earlier today.

It was reported that the Umno supreme council, in a meeting on Wednesday, decided to sack Isham from the party.

According to sources, Isham allegedly breached party rules when he criticised the party openly and labelled it as a lackey of DAP.
