DAP central executive committee to discuss Ng's datukship

DAP's central executive committee (CEC) will discuss Ng Suee Lim's state honours at its next meeting.

Party secretary-general Anthony Loke told reporters this during a press conference at the Federal Territory DAP convention today.

On Dec 11, Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah granted the "Datuk" title to Ng who is the state executive councillor for local government and tourism.

DAP’s policy states that only retired party members are allowed to accept honours from heads of state and federal governments.

However, Ng said he had informed the party's leadership before accepting the honours.

Loke affirmed this stating: “Yes, he did discuss this with me and I told him to bring the matter to the Selangor DAP committee.

“We will discuss this in the CEC during its next meeting.”

Just two months ago, the CEC issued a stern warning to two DAP elected representatives from Sabah after they accepted state datukship.

The duo - Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin and Luyang assemblyperson Phoong Jin Zhe - apologised and said they accepted a reprimand for violating the party’s policy prohibiting members from accepting titles while serving as elected representatives.
