Mat Sabu reappointed as Amanah president, Mujahid new deputy

The newly elected Amanah central committee chose to reappoint Mohamad Sabu as party president for another term, while former Islamic affairs minister Mujahid Yusof Rawa is his new deputy.

Mujahid succeeds Salahuddin Ayub who passed away in July.

The party's three vice-presidents in order of hierarchy are Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad, former Kota Raja MP Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud, and Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari.

Both Siti Mariah and Adly are incumbent vice-presidents while Dzulkefly was previously a central committee member.

In his speech today, Mujahid (above, left) stressed that his main responsibility together with Mohamad is to steer Amanah into the political forefront.

"We must be respected by both our friends and foes," he said.

Mohamad noted that he had never been the most popular choice among delegates, but discussions among elected members have led to his appointment for the third and final term.

He also reminded members that before the 16th general election is due to be called in 2028, a new president needs to be elected.

"The future leaders must work to strengthen our coalition because any cracks will spell trouble for Amanah,” he said.
