KFA graft probe: MACC to summon Kedah MB

Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor will be summoned to assist an ongoing MACC probe involving more than RM6 million linked to the state’s football association, according to Berita Harian.

The Malay-daily quoted MACC senior investigation director Hishamuddin Hashim as confirming the matter.

"Yes, we will call the menteri besar (of a) state to get further clarification," Hishamuddin reportedly said.

The report also quoted sources who indicated that MACC had launched its probe based on a report by contractors who had previously been promised projects in the state.

According to Berita Harian, the contractors were allegedly promised a “construction and service” project in exchange for funds channelled to the football association, of which Sanusi is the president.

"However, after these contractors channelled funds to the football association’s account, they did not receive any project as promised by the individual," the source was quoted as saying.

The alleged broken promise then prompted the contractors to lodge a report with MACC.

It was previously reported the alleged bribe money is believed to be a reward for assisting a company owner in securing contracts for a race circuit construction project and the management, operation, and maintenance of five water reservoirs in Kedah.

Last Friday, MACC remanded Kedah Football Association CEO Zulkifli Che Haron and three others on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes worth more than RM6 million.

Sanusi, in a response, alleged that the investigation was part of a “plot" against those arrested, and that he was the real “target” of MACC.

He also dismissed the corruption allegation as slander.
