Johor police probing clip of 'cop' raining slaps on man

Johor police are investigating a viral video purportedly showing a police officer assaulting a man in public.

In the video, a man in plainclothes, is seen shouting and slapping another individual in handcuffs several times while tugging his hair. 

The video was circulated along with the purported mugshot, name, police ID number and position of the assailant.

Malaysiakini is unable to independently verify these details, which claimed the assailant is the head of a police station.

“We will investigate the matter in detail and urge the public or witnesses to come forward to make a report if they have any information.

“This would help with investigations. Any actions taken towards the relevant individuals will be done according to the law and without any compromise,” said Johor police chief Kamarul Zaman Mamat in a statement.
