Puad: Hassan should self-reflect before asking Zahid to quit as Umno chief

An Umno leader has urged PKR MP Hassan Abdul Karim to self-reflect before calling for the nationalist party to replace its president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Taking to Facebook, Mohd Puad Zarkashi said Umno feels similarly disappointed with PKR ministers’ failures.

“There are those who feel that Hassan’s view is a good one. However, his request for Zahid to be replaced is too much. The PKR MP should reflect on himself.

“He should urge PMX (Anwar Ibrahim) to replace underperforming PKR ministers. What success has Rafizi (Ramli) accomplished for the people’s economy?

“Is it just Padu (Central Database Hub) registration?” Puad (above, left) asked.

Yesterday, Hassan was reported as saying that Umno needed to be led by a fresh face and should not only ride on the “fragile" coat-tails of Pakatan Harapan.

The issue affecting Harapan and BN, he added, was the decrease in Malay support - which Hassan said could change if Umno is led by a new president who has integrity and charisma.

Meanwhile, Puad went on to claim that Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg had criticised Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, who is also the PKR Women chief.

“Don’t forget that the Sarawak premier gave negative comments about the education minister from PKR. Hassan should urge PMX to conduct an evaluation,” said Puad.

On Jan 30, Abang Johari criticised the constant change in the country’s education policy, adding not enough emphasis is being given to English language mastery.

“I’m sorry to say, our education policy is a (constant) flip-flop,” Free Malaysia Today reported Abang Johari as saying.

“Sometimes (when) a new minister takes over, a certain policy is taken. (Then when) the next minister comes, it changes,” he added.

Abang Johari also defended the Sarawak government’s stand on using English in education, urging Malaysians to master both English and Malay.

Stay away from Umno’s affairs

Meanwhile, Puad urged Hassan to stay out of Umno’s internal affairs as Umno has done with PKR – citing the election of Rafizi as PKR’s deputy president.

“The election of Zahid as Umno president is the right of Umno’s grassroots. We did not interfere with PKR’s affairs when Rafizi won the party’s deputy president post, which was said to be not transparent.

“So, Hassan, don’t be a hypocrite and stop being one-sided.

“Even Umno is affected by Rafizi’s empty formulae, with the ringgit depreciating and prices of goods remaining high,” the Umno supreme council member added.
