Tengku Zafrul to file police report over misconduct allegation

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz intends to file a police report over a video circulating online that alleges misconduct.

Zafrul (above), who is accompanying Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on a visit to Australia, told Malaysiakini that he will file a police report upon his return to Malaysia.

“There is a video circulated on social media implying something untoward about my attendance at a product launch in 2023.

“I accepted the invitation in good faith, and our team had no prior knowledge of the alleged or implied impropriety raised in the video.

“As such, my team has begun investigations on this matter, and I will lodge a police report as soon as I’m back in Malaysia so official investigations can begin,” he said.

The minister also urged anyone with evidence of wrongdoing to report it to the relevant authorities.

This follows a social media post in which an unidentified man claimed that a company had paid him RM800 to act the part of a chief executive officer, in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) scam signing involving Zafrul.

The man claimed that the company then used the fraudulent MOU to raise RM36 million.

He claimed employment with a top advertising firm and showed a photograph of himself with jailed ex-premier Najib Abdul Razak.

He directed the video to the attention of Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, who is Anwar’s senior political secretary, and also claimed to have tried to engage Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli over the matter.
