Muhyiddin urges ROS to be fair over party constitution amendment

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin urged the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to be fair in approving its amendments to the party constitution.

He also said that he would go to the ROS headquarters, along with party secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin, to personally hand over the decisions approved during the party’s extraordinary general assembly.

“Together with other party leaders, we will approach the ROS on the decisions approved during the EGM.

“We hope the ROS would consider it fairly and approve it as soon as possible,” Muhyiddin said at a press conference after the closing of the PN Convention today.

On March 2, Bersatu amended clause 10 of its constitution to disallow its lawmakers from defecting in the future, during an extraordinary general meeting.

With the amendment, its lawmakers would automatically lose their membership if they supported rival parties.

So far, six Bersatu MPs have voiced support for the government. They are Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjung Karang), Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), dan Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

Latest defection

Commenting on the latest defection by Selat Kelang assemblyperson Abdul Rashid Asari, Muhyiddin said he had met Bersatu lawmakers from Selangor and they have denied plans to support the government.

“That is our hope as well. Those who attended the convention today showed their commitment.

“Many who came earlier (Bersatu lawmakers) from Selangor told me not to link them to what Selat Kelang (assemblyperson) did,” he added.

On March 6, Rashid voiced his support for the leadership of Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.

“I voluntarily made this decision without any form of compulsion, after scrutinising the speech by Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who praised the Selangor state government for being on the right track in the state’s and rakyat’s progress.

“This step was also due to PN’s, particularly the state chapter’s, ‘silence’ on accusations thrown against the Malay rulers. This is against the principles of Malay Muslims,” Rashid was reported as saying.
