KK Mart in Perak hit with petrol bomb

A petrol bomb was hurled at a KK Mart convenience store in Bidor, Perak at about 5am today.

However, the petrol bomb which landed at the empty area in front of the Jalan Bruseh outlet did not ignite and no one was injured, China Press reported.

Store employees at the outlet reported the incident to the authorities as soon as it happened, the daily said.

Perak police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri confirmed the incident and said police are tracking down the individuals responsible.

Bernama quoted him as saying the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief, which provides a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

This comes as Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said police will take action against vigilantes in the KK Mart issue.

The convenience store chain has been hit with boycott calls after socks with the word Allah were sold at one of its outlets in Bandar Sunway, Selangor.

Apologising repeatedly, KK Mart said its supplier, who has a consignment shelf at the store, had placed the socks there by mistake.

The supplier, Batu Pahat footwear manufacturer Xin Jiang Chang Sdn Bhd, said an exporter in China had wrongly sent them the socks.

Police said they found only five out of 18,800 socks in the factory had the word Allah, and they were the ones returned by KK Mart.

Chai Kee Kan and his wife Loh Siew Mui, both directors of the company, claimed trial to a charge of deliberately hurting religious feelings at the Shah Alam Sessions Court this morning.

Three Xin Jiang Chang directors were also slapped with criminal charges in relation to the case.
