S’gor Umno to return 75 village head posts to state govt

All 75 village community management council or village head positions offered to Umno will be returned to the Selangor government, said Selangor Umno chairperson Megat Zulkarnain Omar Din.
Megat was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia that Umno will be focusing on appointing chairpersons for the Madani village communities, which will be established in every village in Selangor under the Rural and Regional Ministry helmed by party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“I have asked all (Umno) divisions to nominate candidates, at the village level, who will chair the Madani village communities.
“And I have received the list of candidates and brought it to the ministry, we have already received the approval.
“After the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, I will meet with all the chairpersons and secretaries, totalling 746 individuals, to hand over their appointment letters, which will be witnessed by all division chiefs,” he said.
In January, Malaysiakini reported that the Selangor state government was unable to complete the appointment of councillors involving 12 local authorities for the 2024-2025 session.

According to an internal state government source, Umno’s refusal to accept Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari’s offer of 20 seats has complicated the appointment of 272 new council members.
Selangor Umno had initially asked for more than the 20 local council posts offered, but later returned them.
In return, Megat had said that Umno wanted 373 posts at the Village Development and Security Committee throughout the state.
This, he said, was because Umno respects Pakatan Harapan’s dominance in urban areas.
Zahid then affirmed that greed did not play a part in Selangor Umno's decision to reject Harapan's offer of local councillor positions.
"There is no question of greed in this matter because we have 22 division chiefs (in the state),” Zahid said.

Previously, it was reported that the distribution formula for the 373 posts was based on the number of seats won by Harapan and BN in Selangor.
Out of the 56 state assembly seats, Harapan has 32 seats, Perikatan Nasional (22) and the remaining two were garnered by BN.
Umno was allocated 75 village head positions because of its two seats - Sungai Air Tawar and Dusun Tua.
