Azmin: Choose local who understands KKB needs

10.20pm: Batu 30, Ulu Yam, Selangor – Selangor Perikatan Nasional chief Azmin Ali urges voters to choose a local in the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Talking in front of about 50 voters in Taman Batu 30 in Ulu Yam tonight, Azmin says PN’s candidate Khairul Azhari Saut was born and bred in Kuala Kubu Baharu.

“Khairul was born here and he studied here. He’s qualified and professional. So, what more do we want?

“We want a representative that understands the needs of Kuala Kubu Baharu folk.

“We don’t want someone from an arrogant party who always insults other races in this country,” Azmin says.

Choose candidate who can contribute - Fadillah

7pm: Satok, Sarawak - Voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu should choose a candidate who can contribute to the stability and development of the area and Malaysia in general, says Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof.

Fadillah believes that voters in the Selangor state seat can make the best decision to determine the most suitable candidate to represent them.

"Only with stability can we focus on the development of Malaysia, both in terms of the economy, social conditions and so on," he tells reporters after attending a Ramah Tamah event in Zone Four in Satok, today.

Fadillah also expresses hope that all parties, including political leaders and party machinery, will follow the authorities' instructions and maintain community sensitivities throughout the by-election campaign period.

EC enforcement teams to monitor candidates

5.30pm: Hulu Selangor - The Election Commission (EC) has set up two election campaign enforcement teams to monitor the activities of candidates contesting in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

EC chairperson Abdul Ghani Salleh says all campaign materials and methods are permitted as long as there are no elements that incite hatred, dissatisfaction and enmity; are not racist or touch on race, religion, and royalty issues; and do not violate the Election Offences Act 1954.

"The EC hopes that campaigning will be done harmoniously per the laws and regulations set,” says Ghani, adding that candidates are also subject to local by-laws concerning display and distribution of campaign materials with their faces, party symbols and coalition party leaders.

"No limits have been set for (the number of) pictures of political parties and coalition party leaders on campaign materials,” he says in a statement.

Refrain from playing up 3R during campaign - Fahmi

4pm: Kuala Perlis, Perlis - All parties are reminded to refrain from playing up issues related to race, religion and royalty (3R) throughout the Kuala Kubu Baharu campaigning period, according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

According to Bernama, Fahmi says he has instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to increase monitoring of any postings that go against existing laws.

"The MCMC also stated they will not hesitate to call up anyone who breaks the law, particularly the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and if needed, call them up for investigations, confiscate their device and sim cards, and bring them to court," says Fahmi after attending a Jiwa Madani function in Perlis today.

KKB cops will remain professional, minister says

1pm: Cheras, Kuala Lumpur - Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain has met officers in Kuala Kubu Baharu and reminded them to carry out their duties professionally throughout the campaign period.

Speaking at a press conference at Cheras, the minister says the police’s main duty is to ensure safety and public peace.

“The police force’s focus is on safety and public peace. That is the reminder that the IGP issued in the meeting yesterday.

"In giving this advice, we advise all to avoid any destructive elements that are unsuitable to be expressed in our country,” he says.
