Bus driver suspended over rude behaviour in viral video, Apad says

A bus company in Johor has suspended one of its drivers after he was caught being rude to a passenger to the point of forcing the latter to get off the bus.

Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) said it had ordered the company to probe the matter after a video of the incident went viral.

“The company has suspended the bus driver’s duties and Apad has instructed the company to conduct further investigations over the incident to ensure that it does not recur,” it said in a statement.

In the 50-second clip, the bus driver can be seen shouting at the passenger, who recorded the incident, saying that he was not afraid of being on camera and even dared the passenger to make a police report, before stopping the bus and forcing the passenger to alight.

The cause of the dispute between the two is unknown.

Apad reminded companies to monitor their drivers’ performance to ensure the safety of other road users.

“Apad warns all operators and service drivers to always practise professional and courteous work ethics.

“Any improper service will be subject to action based on the enforced rules,” it said.

It also advised the public to remain calm and to not speculate on the issue until investigations are completed.

Complaints regarding public transport services can be brought through official complaint channels provided by either the company or the government, it added.
