Police: Selangor FC player's home burglary unrelated to attacks

Police have ruled out that a burglary incident at Selangor FC defender Ahmad Khuzaimi Piee’s residence yesterday was related to recent assault incidents against other footballers.

According to Shah Alam district police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, the incident was a straightforward house break-in case.

"It's not related (to other incidents). This is a house break-in case," he told reporters when queried about whether the case had any connection with recent incidents involving national footballers in Kuala Terengganu, Damansara and Johor Bahru.

It was reported that burglars had broken into Khuzaimi’s residence yesterday evening, making away with a motorcycle, four branded sling bags and a passport.

In a police report Khuzaimi shared on his Instagram story today, the footballer said he left his home yesterday at around 2pm and returned at night to find his front and back gates open.

Iqbal said police received a report from the footballer at about 11.30 last night, and police have launched an investigation under Section 457 of the Penal Code.

Investigation revealed that two burglars were involved in the incident. The suspects arrived together in a white MPV but left in separate vehicles later as one of them took the footballer's motorcycle.

They also took off with four branded bags, Iqbal said. The losses were estimated at around RM15,000.

Attacks on footballers

On May 2, two robbers attacked Terengganu FC winger Akhyar Rashid after he returned home from training.

Three days later, Selangor FC winger Faisal Halim suffered an acid attack at a mall, sustaining fourth-degree burns requiring split skin grafting surgery, a procedure where the skin is taken from various parts of the body and grafted onto the wounded areas.

It is expected to take three to six months before he can return to action.

In the wake of the acid attack, the club's CEO Johan Kamal Hamidon urgently called for the authorities and football's governing bodies to get serious about addressing violence and assault cases involving players and fans.

In another incident on May 7, the rear windscreen of Johor Darul Ta’zim midfielder Safiq Rahim’s car was smashed as he returned home from training.
