SG BAKAP BY-ELECTION | Perikatan Nasional candidate Abidin Ismail has admitted that there was a “little mistake” made over the validity of the ISO (International Organization for Standards) certificate he has.

According to Abidin (above), the error was made when his background was made known by PAS leaders at the recent candidate announcement ceremony.

The situation, he said, was then played up by his opponent.

“Those people have a narrative, we don’t deny there are some mistakes.

“Actually, ISO certificates are not for individuals, but any company or statutory body needs to have an ISO, the customer’s standards need to have ISO.

“That’s nothing, they’re just manipulating the issue,” he told media who met at Simpang Empat, Seberang Perai Selatan, last night.

Also present were PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Pahang PN chairperson Saifuddin Abdullah and Bersatu Youth leader Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

Earlier Abidin, who is also Nibong Tebal PAS vice-chairperson, received criticism after Tuan Ibrahim on June 15 announced the PN candidate for the Sungai Bakap polls as being a logistics executive with an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certificate.

PN election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, however, defended their candidate as an individual who meets the needs of Sungai Bakap residents.

Abidin expressed his confidence in his ability to retain the Sungai Bakap seat for PN.

“On the first day of the campaign, I visited the community at the Sungai Bakap night market, God willing, the support we received from the night market visitors seemed positive.

“We are confident that they will remain with PN, God willing we hope the 1,500-vote majority will increase,” he said.
