Rembia rep's allocation withdrawn for not being in line with govt

Malacca Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh today said the government has suspended Rembia assemblyperson Muhammad Jailani Khamis’ allocation.

As a government representative, the matter was contained in Jailani’s pledge and he had been warned, Rauf (above) said.

“If the behaviour does not appear to be in line with the party, the party has the right to carry out its duties as an administrator by giving warnings and not providing facilities to elected representatives based on promises,” he said at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

He said Jailani was acting like an opposition member, not one representing the government.

On July 16, PAS announced that Jailani, who has been suspended by Umno for six years, has joined the Islamist party.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said Jailani’s joining the party would not affect his position as an assemblyperson because the Malacca state assembly had not enforced the anti-hopping law at the time.

Commenting further, Rauf said that Umno will submit a demand to Jailani.

He referred to Jailani’s agreement with the party, submitting to its conditions before it allowed him to run as a candidate.

“He (Jailani) signed and agreed to bear the cost demanded by Umno to become a representative if he switches to another party.

"This pledge is signed by all the people's representatives, confirming that this matter has been agreed upon,” Rauf said.

He would leave the matter of Jailani’s position as Rembia assemblyperson to the Malacca speaker based on the provisions of the constitution, he added.
