Mythreyar lodges police report over alleged death threats

Pro-Palestine activist M Mythreyar lodged a police report alleging death threats received on social media over his hunger strike against the sale of Malaysia Airlines Holdings Bhd (MAHB) shares to a Blackrock-linked company.

According to the 45-year-old, aside from the threats, he was also subjected to false accusations by a lawyer and a pro-government online portal.

"I found that on social media, there were too many statements, slanderous, vile words, incitement, slander and threats against me.

"One of the persons who made the post was a lawyer who supports the government, and a pro-government portal that alluded that I had an agenda for carrying out the hunger strike," Mythreyar told Malaysiakini after lodging the report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters today.

His lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali accompanied him.

"I'm lodging this report as there were threats against my life. I hope the police will investigate this matter," he added.

Mythreyar claimed that government supporters and pro-government influencers issued the threats.

Some accusations against him were that he was on a hunger strike to collect money for his own benefit and escape from paying debts.

"I will cooperate with the police to ensure those who made such untrue accusations are brought to face justice."

Mythreyar began his strike on July 10, before ending it yesterday.

He vowed to continue campaigning against the Blackrock deal via other platforms.
