MCA leaving BN merely rumours - Zambry

BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir today said he was informed by MCA leaders that there are no plans for the party to exit the coalition.

Speaking to reporters, Zambry (above) repeated statements by MCA leaders who dismissed the speculation as “mere rumours”.

“MCA has stated that the claim is merely a rumour being spread by certain parties.

“MCA president (Wee Ka Siong) and MCA secretary-general (Chong Sin Woon) have informed that this (plan to leave BN) did not happen,” he said after officiating the Cheras Umno division annual general meeting.

“Not true. No such discussions within the party,” Free Malaysia Today quoted Chong in response to Malaysiakini’s report.

The FMT report also quoted another unnamed MCA leader claiming certain quarters are trying to divide BN.

“We always hold BN supreme council meetings, so there is no issue with parties wanting to leave or join.

“We are always united, including in matters of the political situation that are discussed openly,” added Zambry, who is also the higher education minister.

Earlier, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh expressed confidence that MCA will remain loyal to BN and noted that dissatisfaction among component parties in the coalition is common, as they have been working together for decades.

Separately, MIC president SA Vigneswaran said the query on MCA’s rumoured exit from BN should not be addressed to his party.

“That question should only be answered by MCA, not MIC,” he told Malaysiakini briefly today.

Asked if he would reach out to the MCA president on the matter, Vigneswaran said, “Of course I will”.

However, he refused to comment further, adding that any discussions will be raised internally within BN.
