Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow dismissed speculations that Jagdeep Singh Deo would be removed as deputy chief minister II after the latter took leave for medical reasons.

“As for the speculation about him being replaced, the matter has never been discussed.

“The Penang state government and its leadership pray that Jagdeep will recover soon and return to work to develop the state for the people,” Chow (above) said in a statement.

Yesterday, Jagdeep denied claims that he was asked to take leave from his role in the state executive council.

The Datok Keramat assemblyperson told Harian Metro that he requested leave to seek medical treatment in Kuala Lumpur.

“I’m currently in Kuala Lumpur to get a second opinion on my ankle (injury). Even though it’s been two years, it seems the problem is getting worse.

“You can see that I walk unsteadily and sometimes have to be helped by my officials to go up the stage during an event,” he was quoted as saying.

Jagdeep added that he also wants to seek treatment for psoriasis, an autoimmune disease that affects the skin.

Health issues

Affirming Jagdeep’s statement, Chow said the former met him on July 19 to apply for sick leave.

He said Jagdeep mentioned getting his left leg checked by specialists soon, which may require surgery.

“After deliberating on the matter, I approved his medical leave application, starting from July 22 until Aug 5.

“And I was informed that Jagdeep had already started his treatment yesterday,” he added.
