PAS has rebuked Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over perceived attempts to entice voters in Nenggiri with offers for various development projects.
Perikatan Nasional election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor also reportedly questioned BN’s failure to provide developments in the state seat held by the coalition through Umno since independence until the 15th general election.
“BN has won the seat since Merdeka. Suddenly the BN president says if they win there they will do all kinds of things… seven or eight offers.
“Why wasn’t it done during the time of the BN elected representative? Lost the seat once and suddenly came to offer so many things,” Sinar Harian quoted the Kedah menteri besar as saying.
“In the seven or eight terms representing the people there, why didn’t they (BN) do it?
“I am confused with him (Zahid). Only now he wants to do all kinds of things. When in power they didn’t do anything,” Sanusi (above, right) claimed at a press conference in Alor Setar, Kedah, yesterday.
On Monday, Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said Nenggiri would change in a year if the people returned the mandate to BN in the Aug 17 by-election.
Sanusi, on the other hand, reiterated PN’s readiness to defend the seat. He reiterated that there were no issues surrounding the coalition’s candidate, former PAS Gua Musang Youth chief Mohd Rizwadi Ismail, leaving the party to join Bersatu.
Rizwadi has been fielded as a candidate for PN from Bersatu, based on a status quo of seat allocations from GE15.

“Bersatu-PAS or PAS-Bersatu, no problem. Same as Umno-DAP and DAP-Umno, there is also no problem,” he said.
The Nenggiri by-election was held after Kelantan state assembly speaker Mohd Amar Abdullah announced a seat vacancy on June 13, following Bersatu’s move to drop its incumbent Mohd Azizi Abu Naim.
The Election Commission set August 17 as voting day, while the date of candidate nomination and early voting was set for August 3 and 13 respectively.
