Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Norza Zakaria said he has a special quota to bring his own guests to watch the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.

This quota has nothing to do with the accreditation cards for athletes and the national team participating in the event.

“As the president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and OCM, I am allocated a quota to bring my own guests.

“I have a special quota; nothing to do with the athletes,” he told Malaysiakini today.

Earlier, a photo purportedly showing Norza’s wife and son watching the Olympics with their accreditation cards was circulated on social media, which was questioned by netizens.

The issue was linked to national badminton player Goh Jin Wei who competed at the Olympics without being accompanied by her coach Nova Armada, due to the limited number of accreditation cards issued by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Goh is a professional badminton player and is not under BAM’s purview.

Nevertheless, Malaysian Badminton Academy coaching director Rexy Mainaky and the national men's doubles coach Tan Bin Shen assisted Goh.

Netizen questions minister

A user on X said many people claimed the individuals in the photo were the family of the Malaysian chef de mission for the 2024 Olympics, Mohd Hamidin Mohd Amin, but they were actually Norza’s wife and son.

Therefore, the netizen posed a question to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and her deputy Adam Adli Abdul Halim regarding the allocation of Olympic accreditation cards.

“People are saying that the individuals in the tweet below are Hamidin’s family, but they are not. Please check first.

“They are Norza’s wife and son, based on Norza’s Instagram. Question to Hannah Yeoh and Adam Adli, were two of the accreditation cards allocated to them?” asked the X user with the handle @fdjesfry.
