No manifesto from BN - Jazlan

9.40pm: BN will not launch a manifesto with pledges for the Nenggiri by-election, says its Kelantan chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.

Instead, he says, BN assures of its commitment to resolve issues plaguing voters there.

“For this by-election, we will not come up with a manifesto. Our promise is only… if given the mandate, our candidate will resolve the issues affecting Nenggiri folk.

“What’s the point in launching a manifesto when even the one announced in 1990 is still left unfulfilled,” Jazlan says in an apparent swipe to PAS.

“This is PAS… 34 years governing Kelantan. It was Umno that developed the state. For example, the Central Spine Road highway project… Umno completed the project,” he adds.

Zahid: Umno must win Nenggiri to regain pride

7.35pm: Umno must win Nenggiri to regain its pride, its president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says.

"Yes, because we lost by 810 votes in (the last state election), so I ask the party machinery to try hard so that we can regain the 810 votes in this by-election,” Bernama reports him as saying.

Zahid also says that his party’s candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani can bring development to the constituency.

The deputy prime minister adds that Azmawi’s request to establish a technical and vocational education and training institution in Gua Musang had also been discussed with Mara chairperson Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

"Yes, the chairperson of Mara said that there should also be Giat Mara in Gua Musang... God willing, we will implement all these things," Zahid adds.

New bridge in Kg Renok to solve flood woes

4.20pm: The construction of a new bridge at Batu 6, Kampung Renok, Gua Musang, which is expected to be completed by August 2026, aims to solve frequent flooding in the area and improve the socio-economic conditions for 200 residents.

Deputy Works Minister Ahmad Maslan says the new bridge would also facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce from the residents to marketing or business centres.

"This RM9.3 million project is being conducted through an open tender and is under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry,” he is quoted as saying by Bernama after attending a briefing on the construction project today.

The scope of the project, he says, includes soil treatment, construction of drainage systems, utility relocation, installation of street lighting, and environmental conservation work.

Six polling centres to close early

2.17pm: Six of the 20 polling centres for the Nenggiri by-election will close early on polling day this Saturday.

According to Bernama, the federal government gazette for the by-election notice states that four of these centres - Sekolah Kebangsaan Tohoi, Pusat Pendidikan Komuniti Pos Gob, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Permai and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Sungai - will close at 2pm.

The Pos Simpor community hall and Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulat will close at 3pm.

The other 14 polling centres will operate as scheduled from 8am to 6pm.

There will be no early voting as all early voters, comprising 14 police personnel, will cast their ballots by post.

Puad chides Annuar for donning pricey outfit

10am: Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi slams Perikatan Nasional’s Annuar Musa for allegedly flaunting his expensive outfits when campaigning at Nenggiri.

In a Facebook post, Puad sarcastically tells the PN election operations director for the Nenggiri polls to at least “pretend” to understand the poor when speaking out for the group.

“Photos of Annuar Musa donning Louis Vuitton goods have already gone viral. LV outfit. LV watch. Even his slippers were LV. This came after Annuar was spotted wearing Louis Vuitton when he was distributing Maggi noodles to Orang Asli voters.

“I pity Annuar. It’s not wrong for him to wear branded items. It’s his money anyway. But he should not overdo it.

“You say the rakyat was living a hard life but you are wearing LV. You can at least pretend, (perhaps you can wear) kopiah (skullcap) and sarong,” Puad says.

The issue first started when Annuar (above) was spotted wearing a branded outfit that allegedly cost RM14,000 when campaigning at an Orang Asli area recently.

However, the former communications minister defended himself during a ceramah in Jeram Tekoh, saying what he wears should not be made an issue because he bought all the items using his own money.

PN launches ‘Khidmat’ manifesto

8am: Perikatan Nasional launches its Khidmat manifesto outlining seven key thrusts it pledges to fulfil - should it win the Nenggiri by-election.

Based on the seven letters of the Malay word for service, the main focuses are service to the community, people’s rights, trust and integrity, economic power and infrastructure, knowledgeable society, pure values and prosperity, educated and skilled young people, and rural digital transformation.

The manifesto covers 37 sections and 12 offers for all Nenggiri constituents.

Special offers include appointing a representative from among the Orang Asli, upgrading access roads to the Orang Asli village, and expediting the South Kelantan Development Authority’s (Kesedar) granting of residential lot and garden land titles to settlers.

The manifesto was launched by Kelantan Menteri Besar Mohd Nassuruddin Daud at Markaz Tarbiah Renok, Gua Musang, last night. Bersatu vice-president Mohd Radzi Md Jidin and PN election operations director Annuar Musa were also present.
