Dead toddler believed third victim in Kedah family homicide

The body of a two-year-old boy found at Pantai Leman, Kuala Kedah today is believed to be the third victim of a man, who is now under custody for allegedly killing his wife and daughter.

The wife and daughter's bodies were found in a drain at an abandoned building in Pekan Simpang Kuala on Sunday, while the boy's body was found on the beach at about noon today, Kedah deputy police chief Adzli Abu Shah said.

The boy's neck was slashed similar to the woman, 34, and girl, 10, who are believed to be his mother and sister.

"We believe this is the body of the suspect's youngest child, and we are conducting a DNA test to confirm the identity," Bernama reported him as saying at a press conference at the Kedah police headquarters.

He added that the boy's body was believed to have been thrown into the drain at Jalan Pegawai, too, but was washed up to the beach about 2km away.

He added that the 43-year-old suspect, who was arrested at 9.20pm yesterday, was found with his other son - a boy, aged five, who was unharmed.

The suspect is under remand until Aug 26 and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Drugs found in bodies

The family, all of whom are believed to be non-citizens, were homeless and living in the abandoned building for about a week, he said.

The suspect tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and morphine, he said.

"Perhaps the suspect faced family pressure, and under the influence of the drugs, it likely led to domestic violence.

"We will also question the five-year-old boy (to investigate further) but he is currently still in a state of trauma," he said.

Urging against public speculation, he added that this was unlikely to be planned murders and did not involve others.
