Malaysia to repatriate injured Palestinians after treatment

Injured Palestinians receiving medical care in Malaysia will be repatriated once their treatment is complete, said Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan.

He said this commitment was made to Palestinian leaders before their injured citizens were brought in for treatment in Malaysia.

“Our promise to Palestine... they (the injured) don't want to leave (Palestine), they would rather die in their country... they want to die in their homeland, so we have to send them back.

“I discussed with the Palestinian leaders, they don't want to go to Jordan (and) such... let them die there they said.

“However, as part of the international community, a country with compassion for suffering, the little that we do should not be overly publicised.

“Don't worry, some states are concerned that we will send Palestinians to live there. That won't happen,” he said during a press conference tonight after officiating the general assemblies of the three Umno wings at the World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

On Aug 16, two Royal Malaysian Air Force A-400M aircraft carrying injured Palestinians arrived at the Subang Air Base, Selangor.

The two aircraft had departed from Al Maza Airbase in Cairo, Egypt, carrying 41 patients and 86 of their relatives.

Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who was also present at the press conference, said there are currently no plans for a second flight to bring in more Palestinians.

“As of now, no,” said Khaled when asked by the media.
