Prasarana confirms ransomware attack

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has confirmed a cybersecurity breach involving some of its internal systems.

The country’s largest public transport operator said in a statement today that it is investigating the matter.

“Our cybersecurity team has identified and is handling the situation that involves unauthorised access to some of our systems,” it said in a statement.

It assured that its daily operations were not affected by the security breach.

Earlier today, cyber threat monitor FalconFeeds posted on X that Prasarana had fallen victim to a ransomware attack by RansomHub.

The hacker group allegedly obtained 316GB of the organisation’s data which it plans to release by next week.

Prompt resolution

ThreatMon Advanced Ransomware Monitoring reportedly said on X that the attack took place around 9pm yesterday.

When met at a press conference in Putrajaya today, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he had just been informed of the matter and is awaiting a report from Prasarana.

“I was just informed about it before I attended this press conference. I have yet to receive any report from Prasarana,” he said.

For the record, Prasarana issued the statement just moments after Loke’s press conference concluded.

Elaborating, Prasarana said it is collaborating with the National Cyber Security Agency and CyberSecurity Malaysia to address the situation comprehensively.

“We will provide updates as they become available. Our priority is to resolve this issue promptly while ensuring our services continue to meet public needs,” Prasarana stated.
