A suspected criminal was killed in a shootout with the police at Jalan Bukit Beruntung in Rawang, Selangor, last night.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the shootout occurred at 9.33pm when the 36-year-old suspect, a local, fired at the police.

“The suspect has 16 previous records,” he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960.

Hussein, when contacted, said police checks found that the suspect was involved in robbery cases, including those involving firearms, as well as theft and drug-related activities over the past five years in Kedah.

The cases are still under investigation, and police are working to track down his accomplices, he added.
