A meeting between representatives of an interfaith group and two cabinet ministers, initially scheduled for today to discuss the recent controversy over the placement of religious officers in government departments, has been postponed.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Mohd Na’im Mokhtar reportedly said they are looking for another suitable date when both ministers can attend.
“The initial plan was to have the meeting this evening, but our co-chairperson of the Harmony Committee (and National Unity Minister), Aaron Ago Dagang, has requested that it be held at a later date when he can be present.
“He is not available today, so we will find another date that is suitable for Aaron and I to have the meeting.
“So, it will be held on another date soon,” Na’im (above) said, as quoted by Utusan Malaysia.
He spoke to reporters after attending an event in Bangi, Selangor, earlier today.
It was reported that the two ministers will meet with representatives from the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) today.
The meeting was planned for them to clear the air over a recent controversy over the placement of Islamic Development Department (Jakim) officers at government departments, a move that MCCBCHST objected to.
