All Johor DAP leaders must work together to secure BN win in Mahkota - Liew

All Johor DAP leaders must work towards the electoral win of Barisan Nasional candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah in the Mahkota by-election on Sept 28.

In a brief post on social media Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong confirmed that his party has issued this directive.

The meeting was held at the Kluang DAP parliamentary liaison committee office.

“It recognises the importance of the Mahkota by-election in shaping the political landscape for the next general election,” said Liew, who is also deputy investment, trade and industry minister.

“Therefore all Johor DAP leaders must work towards ensuring BN candidate Syed Hussien’s win on polling day.

“If the Mahkota electorate accepts the coalition government candidate, this will pave the way for a stronger and more stable federal government, as well as closer collaboration between Pakatan Harapan and BN at the state level, preparing for Malaysia’s resurgence and second economic takeoff,” added Liew (seated, centre).

Kluang Umno Youth chief Syed Hussien was named the candidate for the coalition government in the upcoming polls.

The Election Commission set Sept 28 as polling day for the Mahkota by-election, while the nomination and early voting dates are Sept 14 and 24, respectively.

The Mahkota by-election was called following the death of the incumbent assemblyperson, Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.

In the 2022 Johor election, Sharifah won by a comfortable margin of 5,166 voters over Harapan’s Muhammad Taqiuddin Cheman.

She secured 16,611 votes over Taqiuddin’s tally of 11,445 with Perikatan Nasional’s Mohamad Nor Lingan coming in a distant third with 7,614 votes, which amounted to 21 percent of the total ballots cast.
