Mahkota polls: No boycott, Johor PAS will back Bersatu candidate

Johor PAS will not file an appeal or boycott the Mahkota state by-election in Johor on Sept 28 following the decision to field a Bersatu candidate.

Its chief Abdullah Husin said the chapter will abide by the decision despite submitting six names of potential candidates to the Perikatan Nasional leadership.

“From the start, we’ve said the final decision lies in the hands of the central leadership.

“They took various factors into account when reaching the decision (to field a candidate from Bersatu), and we’ve accepted it.

“We will help the PN candidate in the by-election,” Abdullah (above), who is also the deputy Johor PN chairperson, told Free Malaysia Today.

Yesterday, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said PN had decided that Bersatu would contest the by-election which was called following the death of its incumbent from Umno, Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain.

Separately, Umno vice-president Johari Abdul Ghani told reporters yesterday that BN is likely to name its candidate for the Mahkota by-election next week.

He said Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi would announce the name of the candidate chosen to defend the seat.

According to FMT, Kluang Umno Youth chief Syed Hussein Syed Abdullah is among those rumoured to be considered along with Kluang Umno Wanita deputy chief Zainani Jamaluddin and Kluang Umno chief Jais Sarday.
