PAS will not work with Harapan in any format: Hadi

PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has poured cold water on rumours that the party is considering joining the Pakatan Harapan-led federal coalition government.

In his policy speech at the 70th PAS muktamar in Temerloh, Pahang, Hadi said the party has no intention to work with Harapan in any format.

The Marang MP also stressed PAS’ position against working with any party they regard as “telunjuk lurus kelingking berkait” (someone who only appears to be friendly but actually not), an apparent reference to Harapan.

“PAS will continue to get close to those who are sincere in accepting Islam as a solution while rejecting those who are ‘telunjuknya lurus tetapi kelengkengnya berkait’.

“Furthermore, PAS will remain steadfast behind Perikatan Nasional and maintain the original Muafakat Nasional, and has no intention ever to join Harapan in any format,” Hadi said.

There had been rumours that PAS would be joining the federal ruling coalition.

Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil told a press conference in June that there were many “ongoing discussions” between the government and the opposition, particularly with state leaders.

However, he did not specify whether the federal government and PAS had an exclusive discussion on the matter.

PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin reportedly said in August that certain parties were trying to invite PAS to join Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government.

However, he later said that PAS would not entertain any invitation from Umno to be part of the coalition government, which includes DAP.
