PAS non-Muslim wing dares fed govt to ban gambling in all states

PAS MUKTAMAR | The PAS non-Muslim supporters’ wing (DHPP) today challenged the federal ruling coalition to impose a ban on gambling in all states under their control.

Its delegate to the PAS annual muktamar Thines Sreedaran said DHPP supports the PAS-led Kedah state government’s decision to cease operations of all gambling outlets in the state since January 2023.

“Gambling is destructive to the family institution and it is considered haram (a sin) by every religion.

“So why does the federal government want to defend this activity? Do they want the rakyat to be morally corrupt?

“They (ruling coalition) should emulate PAS as a good example, and we dare them to make the same move in all the states under their administration,” he said before the over 1,000 PAS delegates who convened in Temerloh, Pahang today.

Thines (above) was debating a motion proposed by the PAS Youth wing on respecting the spirit of federalism, where they called for Putrajaya to respect the rights of all states and treat each fairly.

‘Walk your talk’

Adding further, Thines criticised the federal government for allowing gambling activities to continue.

He said Putrajaya should not just be rhetorical when talking about caring for the rakyat’s welfare.

“If you are serious then make changes,” he said.

PAS has effectively banned gambling activities in all states under their control.

Kelantan and Terengganu imposed the ban in 1990 and 2020 respectively, whereas Kedah brought the curtain down on 45 gaming outlets starting in January last year.

Perlis was the fourth PAS-ruled state to stop issuing licences for gaming premises after Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah.

The muktamar today also saw PAS delegates pass all six motions proposed to the assembly.

They include a motion on PAS solidarity with Palestine and a call for the party’s top leadership to lead efforts towards uniting Malays and Muslims in Malaysia.

The delegates also approved a suggestion for PAS to pressure Putrajaya and all state administrations to reject the upcoming Urban Redevelopment Act proposed by the Housing and Local Government Ministry.
