IGP must explain 3R SOP, policy implementation: MIC

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain must explain the standard operating procedure (SOP) and policy implementation parameters of 3R (race, royalty, dan religion) investigations, urged MIC.

“I wish to seek an explanation from the IGP over the SOP and 3R policy implementation parameters.

“Let us work together to ensure the 3R policy reflects the true spirit of unity and respect, accepting our uniqueness instead of restraining it,” said MIC president SA Vigneswaran.

He was speaking at the party’s annual general assembly at Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam last night.

Vigneswaran lauded a recent statement by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim that the people can give their input on 3R issues as long as it does not violate guidelines or trigger disharmony among ethnic groups in Malaysia.

“I laud the prime minister’s statement because only when we exchange views and discuss controversial issues that we would understand it clearly.

“Let us choose an assessment that is based on understanding and empathy. Let us emphasise our commitment to society whereby each individual feels appreciated and where every tradition is celebrated,” he said.

The MIC general assembly yesterday unanimously greenlighted a motion for the government to tackle 3R issues that impact and implicate the Indian community.

The proposal contended that in spite of the existence of stringent laws on 3R issues, it is perceived as not implemented in cases involving attacks on the Indian ethnic community and the Hindu faith, with prosecution made under laws with lesser punishments or a longer investigation period.

Such scenarios create the perception among the Indian community that they were discriminated against and lessen the people’s faith in the nation’s legal system.

In the motion, MIC emphasised for the government to increase the representation and voice of the Indian community in political and social discussion to effectively tackle 3R elements.

The government was also urged to ensure all 3R cases are investigated and action taken based on existing laws in a fair and stringent manner, without bias, and immediately.

The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police were urged to act immediately in monitoring 3R issues on social media and to prevent the issues from affecting the peace and security of the nation.
