Kedah flood victims to receive RM1,000 aid

The Kedah state government has announced early assistance of RM1,000 for over 1,000 families affected by flooding in seven districts across the state since Sept 16.

Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said each head of household whose families were relocated to temporary shelters will also receive another RM1,000 from the National Disaster Management Agency.

According to Sanusi (above), there were 3,835 victims from 1,137 families in 29 shelters as of 2pm today.

The affected areas are Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Kubang Pasu, Bandar Baharu, Kulim, and Kuala Muda.

“I would like to advise all individuals to comply with orders from the authorities if instructed to move into a shelter.

“Failure to move or follow existing procedures will result in the victims being left behind from the government’s list of aid recipients,” he said in a statement.

Aside from Kedah, flooding also occurred in two other northern states.

In Penang, eight temporary shelters remained open, housing 586 victims from Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah, and Seberang Perai Selatan.

In Perlis, 149 victims from two districts are placed in four shelters.
