'Don't be too emotional': Selangor ruler forgives Sanusi

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has accepted Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s plea for forgiveness “in the name of Muslim brotherhood and race”.

“I do not want Muslims to be enemies with each other and we, as Muslims, must always forgive if there is sincerity in asking for forgiveness,” said His Highness.

On the same note, Sultan Sharafuddin advised the PAS leader to be more “mindful, not to be too emotional, and not to use inappropriate words”.

The sultan said he did not want the people, especially in Selangor, to be influenced by and become accustomed to vulgarities and baseless accusations, especially from leaders.

“Good behaviour and choice of words is very important for the future of your political career. As a leader, you should consider the ramifications of your every move,” he added, in an open letter published on the Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook page today.

Sanusi’s apology came 14 months after a speech containing “disrespectful” remarks and a day before the case management of his related sedition charge.

On July 18 last year, Sanusi claimed trial to two charges at the Sessions Court in Selayang, Selangor, over his remarks during the state election.

According to the first charge, the menteri besar said the Kedah sultanate was the only one in the country with uninterrupted lineage and that the Kedah ruler would not have appointed Amirudin Shari as menteri besar to head the Selangor administration.

According to the second charge, Sanusi questioned if the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had indeed decreed that a unity government be formed after the parliamentary election in November 2022.
