CPI task force forms focus group to improve perception

The Corruption Perception Index (CPI) Special Task Force, which met for the first time yesterday, will establish a focus group to implement measures to improve the country’s CPI.

Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar chaired the meeting attended by MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki.

The MACC, in a statement, said the focus group will be led by the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC), the Finance Ministry and the Malaysian Productivity Corporation.

Also included are the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, the Division of Legal Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Department and the Communications Ministry.

The focus group’s objective, which comprises public and private agencies, chambers of commerce and NGOs, is to implement actions related to CPI improvement efforts according to their respective priority areas.

It will report to the National Governance Planning Division, a unit under the MACC, as the CPI Special Task Force secretariat, read the statement.

The Special Task Force findings will be reported at the National Governance Cabinet Special Committee Meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Yesterday’s meeting also discussed six areas that must be prioritised: enforcement, public fund management, business competitiveness, investment risk, legislation and strategic communication.

The team consists of chief secretaries and a line of experts, including Bursa Malaysia chairperson Abdul Wahid Omar and Bernama chairperson Wong Chun Wai.
