Teo new Johor DAP chief, Wong becomes her deputy

Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching has been elected as the new Johor DAP chief, while Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi is her deputy.

As for state vice-chiefs, the two positions went to Penggaram assemblyperson Gan Peck Cheng and Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali.

The newly elected 15-member Johor DAP state committee made the decision today.

Teo's predecessor Liew Chin Tong - who was re-elected to the committee - will serve as an ordinary committee member.

Liew, who had served as Johor DAP chief since 2014, publicly announced on Thursday that he would be relinquishing the post and would lobby for Teo to replace him.

Despite stepping down, the Iskandar Puteri MP's influence remains strong, and those aligned with him won big in today's party polls.

Liew's parliamentary aide Ng Siam Luang bagged the most votes, followed by Stulang assemblyperson Andrew Chen.

Teo came in third place, Liew sixth, and Wong eighth.

Also elected to the committee were Johor assemblypersons Liow Cai Tung (Johor Jaya), Wong Bor Yang (Senai), Ng Kor Sim (Jementah), Chew Chong Sin (Mengkibol), Labis MP Pang Hok Liong, as well as Alan Tee, and Yong Hui Yi.

Liew's rivals Bakri MP Tan Hong Pin and former Johor DAP chief Dr Boo Cheng Hau failed to secure a spot.

Others who lost in the election but were co-opted into the state committee were Skudai assemblyperson Marina Ibrahim, Bentayan assemblyperson Ng Yak Howe who was aligned with Tan and Boo, 15th general election candidate for Pontian Shazwan Zdainal Abidin and Dr Ruban Arumugam.
