Respect Zahid's call to stop 'teasing' Harapan - Wan Rosdy

Umno vice-president Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail has expressed support for party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s call to ease tensions among leaders from component parties in the coalition government.

Describing Zahid’s suggestions and reprimand as adequate, Wan Rosdy, who is also Pahang menteri besar, said he agreed that there was no need for Pakatan Harapan to apologise to Umno.

“I support the suggestions, recommendations, and advice made by the president.

“The president has made a decision... that’s enough, I can’t go beyond the president. I agree with what the president reprimanded,” he said when met after a retreat with Pahang Orang Asli community leaders in Kuantan, yesterday.

Wan Rosdy said this when asked to comment on criticisms levelled against Harapan by several Umno leaders, which prompted Zahid’s call.

Zahid on Tuesday said he refused to prolong any tensions between leaders of parties in the government, and that there was no need for Harapan to apologise to Umno.

“We must respect each other. The important thing is that we must maintain the current state of unity in the coalition government,” said the deputy prime minister.

Previously, Umno supreme council member Nur Jazlan Mohamed, in his analysis of the Mahkota by-election last month, had called on Harapan to apologise for the coalition’s decades of attacks against Umno.

The Johor BN deputy chief, however, also said that as a loyal Umno member, he would comply with Zahid’s orders and cease further attacks.

Forestry Dept to answer ‘deforestation’ claims

Meanwhile, Wan Rosdy said the Pahang state secretary or state Forestry Department director will respond to Sungai Lembing assemblyperson Mohamad Ayub Mat Ashri’s allegations regarding “deforestation” activities in Sungai Lembing.

“I think, in the near future, the Pahang state secretary or the Forestry Department director will make a statement.

“We had a discussion earlier in the exco meeting,” he said.

Ayub earlier raised concerns about suspected forest clearing activities done without proper approvals, based on a circular he claimed to have received last month.
