BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reiterated his warning for the party's elected representatives not to trigger "disturbances" that could threaten the unity government, according to Galas assemblyperson Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim.

He said Zahid, during the BN "pre-council" session held at Dewan Tun Hussein Onn, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, reminded that the cooperation among parties in government was intended to last until the 16th general election.

Syahbudin said Zahid also reminded all gathered of the signed pledge between elected representatives and their party.

"Zahid stressed what has been decided, which is this cooperation is until GE16, so there should be no efforts to thwart or inhibit this bond.

"He doesn't want any party, especially among elected representatives bound by an undertaking and an agreement, to face an RM100 million claim (for defection).

"We have also agreed on powers given to the BN chairperson (Zahid). Thirdly, seats won belong to the party and not the individual,” Syahbudin told Malaysiakini.

Carry out duties effectively

Touching on the "pre-council" session, Syahbudin said Zahid also asked all BN elected representatives to carry out their duties well and effectively.

This includes going down to the ground and solving problems affecting the people, he added.

"As the Kelantan state opposition leader, I will bring up some issues that I think are relevant in the state, for example the issue of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and the issue of flood mitigation which needs to be given serious attention and emphasis," said Syahbudin.

Umno supreme council member Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the "pre-council" session was also briefed on ministries led by BN ministers.

He said focus was given to efforts to capitalise on new sectors that have shown high value and growth.

"Assistance for the people is being expanded and also the opportunities to increase skills, especially TVET for the young people.

"And this was also presented by the ministries in which BN has representations," he told Malaysiakini.
