'Hidden hands' trying to undermine me, says Malacca Bersatu chief

Malacca Bersatu chief Yadzil Yaakub alleged that “hidden hands” are trying to undermine him and prevent him from contesting one of the party supreme council posts next month.

While he did not name anyone, Yadzil (above) said as the highest-ranking party official in the state, it was natural for his opponents to target him.

“On reports that the Jasin Bersatu division election was suspended, I verified the news, but it’s a normal process in managing a party. It’s to ensure the party polls are conducted without any issues.

“In politics, it’s normal to have competition and as someone holding a top post at the state level, naturally, I become a target for my opponents.

“Plus, I’m one of the supreme council post contestants expected to win. So, there will be attempts to undermine me.

“Malacca is one of the Bersatu state chapters with a strong grassroots network under my leadership. So, any candidate would want to mark their presence here to get votes,” Utusan Malaysia reported him as saying today.

Polls temporarily ‘frozen’

On Oct 21, Malacca Bersatu secretary Azzaruddin Idris confirmed the Bersatu Jasin division election had been temporarily “frozen” following the recent suspension of the division’s committee.

He said the suspension would take “a period of time” and depend on the investigation carried out by the party headquarters.

Following the suspension, Free Malaysia Today reported a Bersatu source urging Yadzil to step down and suggested Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin take over the position.

Mas Ermieyati is set to be the new national Wanita Bersatu chief after incumbent Rina Harun decided not to defend the post.

On that note, Yadzil claimed that the suspension did not affect Bersatu members in the division, including the positions he would be contesting in the party polls.

“In any case, I’m a loyal party man and anything can happen in the next two weeks (nearing party polls),” he added.
