'Steal all you want, you'll still enjoy a good life', Lip Eng rues

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng is rueing the possibility that thieves who stole public money may get to serve their prison sentences at home.

He said such a situation would translate to a lack of repercussions.

“They stole our money, and now they want to chill at home? It’s like saying, ‘Go ahead, steal all you want, you’ll still get to enjoy a good life.’,” he said in a Facebook post today.

The post used the poop emoji as its background.

While Lim mentioned no names, critics have voiced concerns that an upcoming house arrest law may benefit former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak - who is in jail for corruption over the SRC International case.

Najib is also on trial for corruption involving 1MDB.

On Thursday, the former premier issued a statement apologising for the 1MDB scandal but maintained his innocence.
