Teresa pans 'Samoan-M'sian' jibe at Kamala Harris

A DAP leader has called on American political commentator Tucker Carlson to apologise for his statement describing US Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris as a “Samoan-Malaysian” with a low IQ.

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said, as a lawmaker, she follows global political developments, particularly the ongoing US presidential election.

“The focus of the US presidential election debate should be about the capabilities, policies, and vision of candidates, rather than family background or place of birth, especially since Harris is not from Malaysia,” she said.

“Politicians and political commentators in the United States are busy fighting for gender equality and human rights. 

“I feel sorry now that the US Republican political commentator, Tucker Carlson, used nationality and gender to attack Harris and dragged Malaysia in his speech,” she said.

Carlson reportedly mocked Harris at a Republican rally in Madison Square Garden, New York, by labelling her as “Samoan-Malaysian” and a “low-IQ former California prosecutor”.

Harris, the current US vice-president, is the daughter of a Jamaican father and Indian mother.

Kok also cited PAS’ latest attacks against DAP and called on the party leaders to instead turn their attention to the issue of Malaysia’s good name being degraded by politicians in America.

Previously, Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan gave a tongue-in-cheek response and invited Kamala Harris to “balik kampung” to Malaysia if elected the next US president.

In a Facebook post responding to Carlson’s claim that Harris was part-Malaysian, Mohamad quipped that she should try some “nasi goreng USA”, referring to the fried rice dish that has no actual links to the US.
