Close ranks, Muhyiddin tells Bersatu members as polls end

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin urged party members and leaders to close ranks as the party’s election comes to a finish.

“Alhamdulillah, the election process went on smoothly. I congratulate those who won the polls.

“To those who didn’t win, let’s continue championing our party’s struggles,” he said on Facebook today.

Earlier today, Bersatu announced that the party president’s “compromise” team consisting of Ronald Kiandee, Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, and Ahmad Faizal Azumu had won vice-president positions in the party election.

They triumphed over the other contenders, namely Selangor Bersatu deputy chief Mohd Rafiq Mohd Abdullah, Bersatu information chief Razali Idris, and Batu Kawan Bersatu chief Aziss Zainal Abidin.

Leaders aligned with former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali - who formed his so-called “cartel” - were also elected to the supreme council.

They are Indera Mahkota MP Saifuddin Abdullah and Taman Medan assemblyperson Dr Afif Bahardin.

Carry on with work

On that note, Muhyiddin urged the new party leadership – from the supreme council to division chiefs – to carry on with the duty of steering the party responsibly.

“This is the time for us to come together and strengthen the party for the sake of our future and face bigger challenges ahead.

“And I would like to extend my appreciation to party election committee chairperson Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi and his team for carrying out the polls in an orderly manner,” the former prime minister added.

Last month, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal claimed Muhyiddin was “deeply upset and disappointed” that several members of the supreme council had been working to undermine the agreed-upon compromise plan.

Faizal also reportedly acknowledged there were factions within the party as some members seemed to be aligning themselves with certain leaders to protect their political survival.
